A pressed-glass cup plate produced by the Fort Pitt Glass Works of Pittsburgh in the mid-19th century. Pressed glass, introduced in the 1820s, allowed inexpensive mass production of ornamental tableware for the expanding American middle class. Art Institute of Chicago decorative-arts collection.
