Adrian Ludwig (Ludwig) Richter
1832
Adrian Ludwig Richter's 'The Fountain of Grottaferrata' (c. 1829) is a German Romantic Italianate landscape — a grand stone fountain in the hills south of Rome, peasants washing clothes beneath it, set against the Alban hills. Richter's careful detail and glowing light typify the German expatriate community in early 19th-century Rome. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
