Nymphéas (Water Lilies)

1914–1926

Claude Monet's 'Water Lilies' cycle at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris comprises eight panoramic panels — each four metres wide or more — installed in two oval rooms specifically designed with the architect Camille Lefèvre under Monet's supervision. Completed between 1914 and 1926, they were presented by the artist to France as a monument to the end of the First World War, and the curved walls dissolve the boundaries between water, sky, and willow into a continuous meditative environment.
