Vincent van Gogh
Almond Blossom
1890
Vincent van Gogh painted 'Almond Blossom' in February 1890 as a gift for his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo to celebrate the birth of their son (the future Vincent Willem). Large, pale-blue skies and flowering almond branches — a Japanese-influenced motif — express Van Gogh's hope for new life on the eve of his own final crisis. The painting is one of the most beloved works of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
