Blue Planet Sky
2004
James Turrell's 'Blue Planet Sky' (2004) is a permanent Skyspace at the centre of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. An open square aperture in the ceiling frames a patch of sky while the walls below are washed with a slow programmed colour cycle that reacts optically to the changing daylight. A pilgrim's bench invites contemplative viewing — the appearance of the 'sky' reshaping itself at every hour.
