Urs Fischer
Untitled (Lamp/Bear)
2005
'Untitled (Lamp/Bear)' (2011/2017) is a monumental sculpture by the Swiss artist Urs Fischer: an enormous yellow teddy bear, slumped as if melting, with a domestic desk lamp leaning against it — cast in some 23 tons of patinated bronze. First realised in 2011 for New York's Seagram Plaza, the work has been produced in several large editions; one of them anchors the central rotunda of the Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Collection) in Paris, where it sits theatrically beneath the 18th-century dome of the former grain exchange. One edition made auction headlines when it sold at Christie's for USD 6.8 million.
