Albrecht Dürer
Young Hare
1502
Albrecht Dürer's 'Young Hare' ('Feldhase', 1502) is one of the most admired nature studies of the Northern Renaissance — a watercolour and gouache on vellum in which every whisker, claw, and strand of fur is observed with almost miraculous precision. Because of its extreme light-sensitivity, the original is almost never exhibited; the Albrecht-Dürer-Haus in Nuremberg and the Albertina in Vienna rotate high-fidelity facsimiles in its place.
