Yayoi Kusama
Infinity Mirrored Room
2013
Produced for the opening of The Broad in Los Angeles in 2015, Yayoi Kusama's 'Infinity Mirrored Room — The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away' is one of the most beloved instalments of her immersive 'Infinity' series. A small mirrored chamber, its floor covered in a thin pool of water and its ceiling strung with hundreds of hanging LED bulbs, reflects the lights endlessly in all directions. Visitors enter one or two at a time for roughly thirty seconds, floating alone among stars — the most audience-friendly expression of Kusama's lifelong theme of self-obliteration and cosmic repetition, and the single most-queued work in the museum.
