Balloon Dog (Blue)

Among the most iconic works of Jeff Koons's 'Celebration' series, 'Balloon Dog' translates a party-favour balloon animal into a more-than-one-tonne stainless-steel sculpture finished in transparent automotive blue. The mirror-polished skin warps the reflection of viewer and room alike, making the balloon simultaneously an innocent object of play and a vehicle for confronting the beholder. Five unique colours (Blue, Magenta, Yellow, Orange, Red) were produced between 1994 and 2000; for years the series held auction records for any living artist. The Broad in Los Angeles displays the Blue version as a permanent highlight.
