Roy Lichtenstein Pop Art

Roy Lichtenstein's Pop Art (1923–1997) translated the Ben-Day dots of 1960s American comic books into monumental painting, dissolving the boundary between mass media and high art and producing some of the most recognisable images of postwar American painting. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (MOT) holds works from across Lichtenstein's career — from 'Drowning Girl'-era screenprint editions to his late 'Brushstroke' canvases and ceramic sculpture — and was among the first East Asian institutions to stage a full Lichtenstein retrospective, making his dotted paintings a key reference point in the museum's narrative of postwar internationalism.
