Balloon Dog (Magenta)
1994-2000
The magenta edition of Jeff Koons's most iconic 'Celebration' sculpture, 'Balloon Dog' translates a party-favour balloon twist into a more-than-one-tonne stainless-steel monument finished in transparent automotive paint. The five unique colour versions — Blue, Magenta, Yellow, Orange, Red — were produced between 1994 and 2000; the Magenta cast is installed in the outdoor sculpture garden of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., where its mirror-polished surface warps the surrounding buildings of the National Mall into a continuously shifting chrome field.
