The Museum der Moderne Salzburg, split between a modernist building on the summit of the Mönchsberg and a second house in the city below, is one of Austria's principal contemporary-art institutions. Its holdings and changing exhibitions span 20th- and 21st-century Austrian and international art, from retrospectives of Oskar Kokoschka, Maria Lassnig, and Arnulf Rainer to international photography, conceptual art, and new media — together with the Albertina and Leopold in Vienna, it helps anchor Austria's modern and contemporary network.
