Lygia Clark
Bicho (Critter)
1960
One of Lygia Clark's 'Bichos' ('Critters', early 1960s) — hinged aluminium sculptures that the viewer is invited to manipulate by hand, folding and reopening them into constantly new forms. A founding work of Brazilian Neoconcretism, the series dissolved the line between sculpture, painting, and participation, and today anchors the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro's displays of postwar Latin American art.
