Gräf & Stift
Sarajevo Assassination Car
1914
The open-top 1911 Gräf & Stift double-phaeton in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg were assassinated in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, igniting the July Crisis that led to the First World War. The car — still bearing a bullet hole and dark stains — is permanently displayed at the Museum of Military History (HGM) in Vienna, one of the most charged single objects of 20th-century political history.
