I.M. Pei Architecture
2006
Completed in 2006 by the Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei (1917–2019), the Mudam Luxembourg (Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean) is built within the surviving walls of the 17th-century Fort Thüngen above Luxembourg City. White stone and glass, a high triangular atrium, and a V-shaped plan weave the new museum into the historic ramparts in one of Pei's late masterpieces. The building itself functions as a signature piece of Luxembourg's cultural identity, inseparable from the art it holds.
