Seydou Keïta
Untitled Portrait
c. 1953/57, printed 2019
Another of Seydou Keïta's 'Untitled Portrait' gelatin silver prints, produced in his Bamako studio in the 1950s–early 1960s. Keïta carefully posed his sitters with garments, accessories, and printed backdrops of his own choosing, producing images that are simultaneously personal portraits and studies in postcolonial Bamako elegance. The Art Institute of Chicago is one of the most important international repositories of his work.
