Self-Portrait and Autobiography

Alice Lyon's 'Self-Portrait and Autobiography' uses oil mixed with sand to build a textured, almost sculptural surface for a frank autobiographical self-representation. Working within the lineage of Chicago contemporary painting's preoccupation with female identity and labour, the canvas is held in the Art Institute of Chicago's contemporary painting collection.
