Suzanne Jackson
oldblueshanging, while she waits
2017
Suzanne Jackson's 'Old Blues Hanging, While She Waits' (2010s) is a layered composition of acrylic, mixed papers, and wood in which translucent coloured films suspend everyday fragments around the figure of a woman in a posture of patient waiting. Long a pivotal figure in African-American modernism (her Los Angeles Gallery 32 was a key 1970s space), Jackson came to late international recognition in the 2010s; the work is held in the Art Institute of Chicago's contemporary paintings.
