Untitled (Poster for Naturally ‘70)

An offset-printed poster for the 'Naturally '70' fashion show by the African-American photographer Kwame Brathwaite (1938–2023), whose decades-long documentary work from the 1960s onward helped define the visual culture of the 'Black is Beautiful' movement. Brathwaite's images of women wearing natural afros and African-inspired dress became iconic of Black American self-representation. The Art Institute of Chicago holds an important group of his photographs.
