Shuttlecocks
1994
Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen's 'Shuttlecocks' (1994) for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City are four monumental 5.5-metre badminton shuttlecocks scattered across the museum lawn as if just landed in mid-game — the neoclassical building cast, in the artists' sly joke, as the net. Since their installation they have become one of Kansas City's most recognisable civic landmarks.
