Olive Trees
1889
One of Vincent van Gogh's 'Olive Trees' series, painted during his stay at the asylum of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in 1889. The olive groves of Provence are rendered in swirling strokes of yellow, green, and blue, registering even in the throes of mental crisis the pulse of the landscape. The Minneapolis Institute of Art holds one of the most resolved versions of the cycle.
