Adeline Ravoux

1890

Vincent van Gogh's 'Adeline Ravoux' (June 1890) portrays the twelve-year-old daughter of the innkeeper at Auvers-sur-Oise, where Van Gogh spent the final weeks of his life. Seated almost in profile in a rich blue dress against a pale pink ground, the sitter is rendered with a quiet tenderness that sets her apart from the better-known, more agitated late Auvers canvases. The oil on fabric is at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
