Thomas Cole's 'Schroon Mountain, Adirondacks, after a Storm' (1838) depicts the Adirondack peak with its slopes ablaze in red autumn foliage as storm clouds break and sunlight floods the valley. A founding canvas of the Hudson River School, it is a classic Romantic hymn to the Sublime of American wilderness. Oil on canvas, Cleveland Museum of Art.
