Portrait of the Ladies Amabel and Mary Jemima Yorke

c. 1761

Sir Joshua Reynolds's 'Lady Amabel and Mary Jemima Yorke' (c. 1761) is a grand double portrait of the daughters of Philip Yorke, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke. The girls' solemn classical pose and the painter's warm modelling of silk and skin typify the Georgian grand-manner tradition Reynolds codified. Oil on canvas, Cleveland Museum of Art.
