Walking ensemble
ca. 1835
An American silk 'walking dress' of the mid- to late 19th century, cut for formal outdoor promenade in parks and boulevards. The wide skirt, corseted bodice, and delicate trim are characteristic of Victorian-era middle- and upper-class American women's dress. It is part of the Costume Institute's reference collection of 19th-century American fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
