Riding coat
ca. 1760
An 18th-century British women's riding habit in silk and goat hair, adapting the cut and tailoring of a man's military coat for women's outdoor and equestrian use: deep lapels, metal buttons, and sharp tailoring together defined the fashion of the British sporting aristocracy. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it as a reference example in its Costume Institute.
