Jackson Pollock American, 1912-1956
The Key
1946
Jackson Pollock's 'The Key' (1946) belongs to the 'Accabonac Creek' series produced soon after his move to Springs, Long Island, just before the full 'drip' breakthrough. Biomorphic figures and a deeply ploughed surface anticipate the all-over field paintings of the next two years. Oil on linen, Art Institute of Chicago.
