The Golden Wall
1961
Hans Hofmann's 'The Golden Wall' (1961) is a classic late Hofmann: a great rectangular slab of chrome yellow set above and beside blocks of red and blue, each colour shoved toward the viewer by the surrounding field — a textbook demonstration of his famous 'push-pull' theory. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
