Ellsworth Kelly's 'Red Yellow Blue White and Black II' (1953) is one of his early European compositions — seven joined panels of unmodulated primary colour plus white and black, in which the chromatic sequence itself becomes the subject. The sequencing recalls the arrangement of musical notes; Art Institute of Chicago.
