Philip Guston's 'Couple in Bed' (1977) is one of his late 'head-and-shoulders' domestic paintings, in which he and his wife Musa are piled together in bed with a fistful of paintbrushes clutched like a bouquet — the painter's insistent image of art and love in old age.
