Willem de Kooning American, born Netherlands, 1904–1997
Untitled XI
1975
Willem de Kooning's 'Untitled XI' (1975) is one of the painter's lush late abstractions, the ribbons of creamy pink, ochre, and turquoise flung across the linen in thick wet-into-wet strokes that recall both the body and the Hampton Bays landscape where de Kooning then lived. Oil on linen, Art Institute of Chicago.
