Felix Gonzalez-Torres American, born Cuba, 1957-1996
"Untitled"
1989
Félix González-Torres's wall-mounted text-and-paint works, begun in the late 1980s, present dates or words directly painted on the gallery wall in enamel. Each installation is remade whenever the piece is shown and erased afterwards — an elegiac reflection on memory, loss, and love refracted through minimalist restraint. This example is one of several González-Torres pieces held by the Art Institute of Chicago.
