Red Plank
1969
John McCracken's 'Red Plank' (1966) is one of the West Coast minimalist's signature 'planks' — a single lacquered coloured plank leaned directly against the wall, the joint of floor-and-wall reframed as a sculptural event. McCracken spent years producing such industrial-finish monochromes that bridge California Finish Fetish and classical East Coast Minimalism. Art Institute of Chicago.
