Rodeo

Brice Marden's 'Rodeo' (1971) is one of his austere early monochrome canvases: two joined panels of subtly modulated wax-and-oil whose velvety matte surface records a single determined encounter with colour and support. Marden's measured early minimalism preceded the calligraphic line-paintings of his later career. Art Institute of Chicago.
