Alexander Calder's 'The Trolley' (1940s) is a sheet-steel-and-wire sculpture by the inventor of the mobile, painted in Calder's trademark primary colours. The work updates his early mobile vocabulary of suspended planes with a grounded 'stabile' base and delicately trembling wire extensions. Art Institute of Chicago.
