America Windows
1977
Marc Chagall's 'America Windows' (1977), designed for the Art Institute of Chicago and fabricated in Chagall's Reims studio with Charles Marq, are three pairs of stained-glass windows in a deep cobalt blue punctuated with flying figures, musicians, and tiny scenes from American cultural life. Donated in honour of the U.S. Bicentennial and of Mayor Richard J. Daley, they are among the museum's most beloved works.
