Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler
autumn 1910
Pablo Picasso's 'Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler' (1910) is one of the foundational portraits of Analytic Cubism. The dealer Kahnweiler — Picasso and Braque's unwavering early supporter — is splintered into dozens of interlocking grey-and-ochre facets, his presence legible only through faintly persistent details like his watch chain and folded hands. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
