A Chemist Lifting with Extreme Precaution the Cuticle of a Grand Piano
1936
Salvador Dalí's 'Inventions of the Monsters' and related pictures of the 1930s include this canvas with its extraordinary full title about lifting the 'cuticle of a grand piano'. The work is a miniature example of Dalí's exuberantly verbose Surrealism, with melting musical instruments and impossible architectural perspectives. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
