Salvador Dalí Spanish, 1904–1989
Untitled (Dream of Venus) formerly Visions of Eternity
1939
Salvador Dalí's 'Untitled (Dream of Venus)' (1939) was painted for the Surrealist pavilion Dalí designed for the 1939 New York World's Fair — the 'Dream of Venus' funhouse in which nude performers floated in a glass tank. The painting captures the exuberantly erotic, sea-themed mythology of that project. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
