Earthly Paradise

1916–1920

Pierre Bonnard's 'Earthly Paradise' (1916–1920) is a large decorative canvas in which a naked Eve and Adam move through a luxuriant, dream-like garden of fauna and fruit — a late Nabi meditation on the biblical fall, painted in Bonnard's saturated palette of rose and emerald. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
