Paul Klee's 'In the Magic Mirror' (1934), painted in his late Bern period after his expulsion from the Bauhaus, reflects his private cosmology: a spindly figure gazes into a mirror of abstract signs, layers of oil on canvas mounted on board articulating Klee's miniature universes.
