Jean (Hans) Arp's 'Growth' ('Croissance', 1938, cast 1960) is an ivory-white marble sculpture in which organic, biomorphic forms curl upward like sprouting plant or cell. Arp's lifelong commitment to 'concrete' form free of representation places him at the heart of mid-century European abstract sculpture. Art Institute of Chicago.
