The Eye
1932/35
René Magritte's 'The Eye' ('L'Œil', 1932) depicts an enormous human eye floating in a hazy blue sky, the iris reflecting a vista of Magritte's characteristically displaced imagery. A classic Surrealist inversion of vision and object, the picture is held at the Art Institute of Chicago.
