Man Ray American, 1890–1976
1914
Man Ray's 'The Departure of Summer' (1914) is an early painting by the American artist before his turn to photography and Dada. Figures dissolve into flat colour planes in a debt to both Cubism and early modernist stained-glass design — a rare surviving witness to Man Ray's painterly beginnings. Art Institute of Chicago.
