Dead Fowl
c. 1926
Chaim Soutine's 'Dead Bird' (c. 1926) is one of his nervous, thickly painted still lifes of slaughtered game — a plucked bird hanging from a nail in front of a blue ground, rendered in Soutine's visceral Expressionist brushwork. Oil on canvas, Art Institute of Chicago.
