Constantin Brâncuși's 'Anguish' (variant cast from 1915) is an early bronze figure of a crouched, distressed body. The simplified facets of the face and body mark Brâncuși's move from Rodin-inflected modelling toward pure abstraction. Bronze, Art Institute of Chicago.
