Girl with the Green Face
1910
Alexej von Jawlensky's 'Girl with Green Face' ('Mädchen mit grünem Gesicht', 1910) is a signature Expressionist portrait by the Russian-born German painter. The sitter's face is painted in boldly non-naturalistic green and red strokes, inspired by Matisse and by late Byzantine icons. Oil on composition board, Art Institute of Chicago.
