Two Poplars in the Alpilles near Saint-Rémy
1889
Vincent van Gogh's 'Two Poplars in the Alpilles near Saint-Rémy' (October 1889) was painted during his year at the asylum of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, when he pushed himself outdoors among the limestone ridges of the Alpilles. Two tall poplars sway under a turbulent autumn sky rendered in his swirling late brushwork. Oil on fabric, Cleveland Museum of Art.
