Paul Cezanne (French, 1839–1906)
Mount Sainte-Victoire
c. 1904
Paul Cézanne's 'Mont Sainte-Victoire' (c. 1902–1906) belongs to the series of more than sixty paintings and watercolours in which the Provençal master returned again and again to his 'home' mountain at Aix. Blocks of slate, ochre, and cool green build the peak in the faceted planes that would inform Cubism. Oil on fabric, Cleveland Museum of Art.
