Paul Gauguin's 'Large Tree' (c. 1891–1893) is a Tahitian landscape painted after Gauguin's first voyage to French Polynesia, its tropical tree flattened into the rhythmic silhouette and saturated, non-naturalistic colour that would shape 20th-century modernism.
